Tile types we treat
Marley & Redland concrete (Mendip, Modern, Wessex), Sandtoft, Marley Eternit slate, Welsh slate, Spanish slate, Forticrete and most clay pantiles. Each requires a different cleaning approach and biocide dilution — we calibrate per job.
Our method vs harsh pressure washing
Harsh high-pressure jet-washing (3,000+ psi) strips tile surfaces. Our method combines low-pressure washing and steam cleaning with hand-scraping of moss and a biocidal treatment as standard. You get a proper physical clean without stripping tiles, plus chemical treatment to slow regrowth.
Moss vs lichen vs algae
Moss is the visible green pad — physical hand-scraping needed. Lichen is the orange/yellow crust — bonds to tile chemistry, needs biocide dwell-time of 20+ minutes. Algae (gloeocapsa magma) is the black streak on north slopes — purely a biocide job, no scraping required. We identify the dominant contamination on inspection.
Access & safety
Roof ladders, edge protection and bagged-debris protocols mean nothing falls and no neighbours are inconvenienced. Fully insured with £5m public liability cover. Tower scaffolding set-up where access requires it — factored into the quote.
Residential vs commercial roofs
Domestic pitched roofs are our core. We also clean small commercial pitched roofs (offices, units, schools) — typically scheduled out-of-hours. RAMS documentation available on request for commercial jobs. Flat roofs and industrial profiled metal are handled by separate specialist quotation.
